Versatile Wildlife Camera Mounting System

Scott Country International introduces the new Trail Camera Pod Wildlife Camera Mounting System.

Wildlife Cameras have become increasingly popular for a wide variety of end uses from wildlife observation to security applications. Therefore a more versatile mounting system is required to suit the different environments these cameras could be used in.

Most wildlife cameras come with built in loop holes on their casings to enable them to be secured to trees and fence posts with straps or come with screw holes for mounting on tree brackets, but for use in security applications these attributes are often rendered useless.

Thankfully we have found the solution to this problem with our new Trail Camera Pod. This versatile Trail Camera pod is designed to carry more than a 1kg in weight and allows most wildlife cameras to be mounted to all sorts of objects of different shapes and sizes.

Nextorch launch world's first smart torch

Nextorch have launched the world's first Smart Torch.

Their new myTorch series of torches are user configurable due to the integration of Smart Torch Technology (STT) and an Open Programming Control Chip (OPCC). This unique feature combines traditional mode adjustment with state of the art technology creating a flashlight which has an unlimited number of user configurations.

Once connected to a computer via a USB port located under the reflector head cover of the torch, a piece of software supplied by Nextorch (or available to download from the Nextorch website) then allows you to upload either a choice of pre set modes or a set custom configurations.

Activating your Spypoint LIVE wildlife camera is easy as long as you follow all the correct steps which are explained in detail below.

please note: If you've been experiencing problems with your Spypoint LIVE wildlife camera, please ensure that you have read and followed every step of the procedure carefully in this blog before contacting us. This will lead to a far quicker and accurate diagnosis of any potential problem.

The procedure for activating your Spypoint LIVE wildlife camera is as follows:

1. Buy a SIM card from a mobile network provider and add a data plan for your LIVE camera.

worth noting: When using your own SIM card, a data plan is required. Any mobile network with a data plan is compatible with the Spypoint LIVE.

When you buy a SIM card make sure you purchase a pre-paid data pack which suits your needs

2. Create your mySpypoint account

It is preferable to use Internet Explorer (Safari for Mac users) during the whole procedure.

Mozilla Firefox and other web browsers are not compatible..

Make sure you have the following to hand:

Sim card and data plan

Spypoint LIVE wildlife camera

Credit card

Computer and internet access

Pencil

Philips Screwdriver

8 AA Batteries or Spypoint LIT-09 lithium battery pack

The following procedure will allow you to use the interface of the 'mySpypoint' to save and manage images received from the Spypoint LIVE wildlife camera for the duration of one year.

1. In order to commence with the registration of a new Spypoint account go to www.myspypoint.com

2. Click on "Register now" and enter your personal details where required and then click "Subcribe"

3. You will be prompted to confirm your registration via email. An email from "info@myspypoint.com will automatically be sent to your personal email account.

4. When confirmed a new page will open allowing you to access your new account.

5. On this new "mySpypoint" web page click "account".

6. Click "Add" in the top right hand corner of the page to link your Spypoint LIVE camera to your account.

7. Enter a name for your wildlife camera. For instance, if your camera is installed in your garage you could call it "Garage".

8. Enter the number of your SIM card.

9. Enter the serial number of your camera which is displayed in the bottom left hand corner of the camera screen in the main menu and click "Continue".

10. Select the monthly data transfer limit according to your service provider data plan. This option makes sure you do not exceed the amount of data permitted on your data plan. An email will be sent to the address related to your account when you have reached 80% of your monthly limit. The picture transmission to your mySpypoint account will automatically be blocked if the amount of data transfer reaches 95% of the limit chosen. The camera will continue recording locally on the SD card. The monthly data transfer limit can be changed at a later date via the camera's management section of your account under the "Account" tab.

11. An invoice will appear in order to pay your registration. This will provide you access to your mySpypoint account linked with your Spypoint LIVE camera for one year. Then enter your credit card details as requested.

12. Check the box "I have read and I accept the methods of transaction" then click "Pay".

13. Install the batteries and turn on your Spypoint LIVE camera.

14. Go to SETTINGS menu and change the option "Carrier" for the one you are using.

15. Go back to the main menu and select TEST mode. Make sure that the signal strength icon in the top left hand corner of the screen is showing at least 1 white bar. If you then see a message appear on the screen indicating your SIM card number, press OK.

16. If the cellular signal strength icon at the top of the screen is white (not red) and the message "Could not connect" disappears, your camera is ready for use and able to communicate with your account at "mySpypoint.com". If an error message shows up, refer to the section "Error Messages" of your user manual. Locating a good quality riflescope which will perform perfectly in every scenario is not easy to find these days. However rifle scope manufacturers MTC have cracked a difficult nut.

MTC Riflescopes are available in several different models, the MTC Viper, MTC Mamba, MTC Genesis and MTC Taipan.

In this blog I'm going to focus on the MTC Viper series. The MTC Viper

received critical acclaim from shooting publications such as Airgunner, Shooting Sports, Airgun World, Gunmart and above all, customers in the hunting and field target market.

It is widely considered to be one of the most versatile scopes currently available. The MTC Viper incorporates many features you will already know with a few more which you won't have seen.

The Viper is ideal for long range vermin control, foxing and field target shooting. It is a one piece tube with a diameter of 30mm incorporating lockable target turrets with side parallax and an illuminated SCB reticle for pinpoint accuracy at all ranges.

Other equipment features such as detachable metal flip up lens covers, quality scope rings, a touch friendly detachable side wheel and removable sunshade all come as standard.

The aforementioned MTC-SCB reticle is a modern modified Mil-Dot pattern in a ladder reticle which provides a fast and efficient method of determining holdover as well as range. Precision is guaranteed by the sheer amount of aim points with a floating cross for clear and accurate target acquisition.

Another unique feature worth mentioning is the patented "Push Pull Lockable Turrets".You essentially have the same level of protection as covered turrets combined with the ease of use of a tactical target turret. Simply pull up the turret to activate the rotational turn and then push back to lock in place. The easily readable zero labelling is also very easy to use. All you need to do is ease off the thumb wheel and turn the number fascia, then lock it off again with your zero now set. There is no need for the use of tools or grub screws.

The optics are also ETE Microlux fully coated to maximise light transmission through the objective lens ensuring a pin sharp image with no distortion from infinity down to 10 yards.

A maximised level of light transmission translates into excellent low level light performance.

Attention to detail is obvious everywhere you look. Take for instance the 270 degree angle adjustable metal flip up lens covers. The removable metal flip ups are attached to the front and rear housing with O ring seals to ensure maximum protection from dirt, water and impact damage. They are also easy to realign when removed in case you needed to fit a DSA (Day Scope Adaptor) for a night vision add on system.

This leads me on to another advantage of MTC scopes. The MTC Viper series is ideal for use in conjunction with a Day Scope Adaptor (DSA) and add on Night Vision device. This is because the Viper has easy to use side adjustable parallax and a high level of light transmission. Fitting a NV device to a day scope is big business these days due to affordability and recent NV device design improvements.

The most popular NV add on comes from Pulsar, the Challenger GS kit with DSA. Performance of this particular NV add on kit is optimised in conjunction with MTC scopes.

A quick search on shooting forums will yield many threads on the subject with MTC scopes being praised highly when used in conjunction with a NV add on kit.

Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Wildlife Cameras featured on The Gadget Show on FIVE Monday 31st October at 8pm

The Bushnell Trophy Cam HD is the latest state of the art covert wildlife camera which has recently been used by the presenters of The Gadget Show on channel FIVE during filming of a feature on Soundbars in the London Tombs.

Viewers will be able to see the footage filmed using the cameras by The Gadget Show presenters on Monday 31st October at 8pm. NEW Laser Genetics ND3x50 Sub Zero Laser Designator and Scott Country ND3x50 Cold Weather kit

The new Laser Genetics ND3x50 Sub Zero Laser Designator allows for target acquisition and illumination at night in the coldest weather conditions.

The Laser Genetics ND3x50 Laser designator was already the most powerful laser that Laser Genetics produce, however it was not designed for use in sub zero temperatures. The battery compartment of the regular ND3x50 is not insulated well enough to stop the batteries from becoming what is sometimes referred to as "slushy". This happens when batteries ice up which causes increased internal resistance, thus rendering the batteries incapable of powering up the laser.

The new ND3 Sub Zero has a heated battery compartment by routing some of the current produced by the batteries to heat the compartment itself, thus enabling the device to be used down to temperatures of -17 deg.C.

The only disadvantage of routing a portion of the power produced by the batteries to heat the battery compartment, is that battery run times are reduced by 30%.

Bushnell's latest nature camera, the Trophy Cam HD with LCD Colour Viewer, is an evolution of their existing Trophy Cam HD stealth trail camera.

NEW Pulsar N550 Digisight Lens Conversion kit by Dr.Bob

At last a lens conversion kit available for the Pulsar N550 Digisight NV rifle scope!!

Dr. Bob, a company specialising in the manufacture of precision parts, produced a much needed lens conversion adaptor which enables a high quality Pulsar Gen 2+ 1.7x lens to be attached to the extremely popular Pulsar N550 Digital night vision weapon sight.

The Pulsar Gen2+ 1.7x lens produced far better results in a recent

test which included a Sony Camcorder 2x lens which some people have been using in DIY lens conversion kits.

By using the Pulsar 1.7x lens, the magnification is increased from 4.5x to 7.65x. This level of magnification provides much better target detail. The image quality is also enhanced due to the much higher level of light transmission when compared to a camcorder day lens. However, the degree to which the image quality is improved was not expected at first, however it is a welcome bonus.

The adaptor itself is precision made to fit solely in the cowling of the Pulsar N550. As the Pulsar N550 does not have any threading in the cowling to accommodate an attachment, the adaptor has been designed to fit in the cowling recess very tightly. You will know when it is securely in place because you will be aware of a very definite "click". There are 3 small grub screws in the adaptor in case you wish to tighten it further.

As the adaptor has been produced by Dr.Bob, the adaptor itself is not covered by a Pulsar warranty, however as long as you take reasonable care and follow the instructions to the letter, you won't have a problem.

In fact, it fits so well that you could easily use this conversion on Pulsar N550's fitted to larger caliber rifles such as .243.

Removing the adaptor from your N550 isn't an issue either as the level of force required to retract the adaptor is no more than it takes to fit on.

The Pulsar Gen 2+ 1.7x lens comes with its own flip up cover which renders the N550's lens cover is redundant when fitted with the lens conversion kit. However it can still be used in another way... If you have a Yukon MPR (Mobile Personal Recorder) for example, you can easily attach the MPR with the screen facing you to the back of the redundant N550 lens cover using a piece of velcro. This means the MPR unit doesn't have to be stored in your pocket when you are recording footage from the N550. This means it is easier to turn the recording capability on and off without having to search your pocket for the right button to press. The cable connecting the MPR to the N550 could also impede your movement and get in the way in certain circumstances if the MPR unit is kept in your pocket.

Turn your day scope into a night vision scope using the Pulsar Challenger kit

Turn your day rifle scope into an effective night vision hunting tool by attaching the Pulsar Challenger GS DSA night vision kit.

The Pulsar Challenger GS (super Gen 1+) 1x20 night vision monocular kit includes a DSA (Day Scope Adaptor) which enables it to be fitted to the eye piece of your day scope.

The term "Super" Gen 1+ is a only applicable to Pulsar products. Trail Camera specialists Spypoint have launched a new version of their range topping 12 mega mixel Spypoint Pro X Scouting camera called the Spypoint Pro X PLUS.

Visually there is no difference between the top of the range Spypoint Pro X trail camera and the new Pro X Plus. However there are some new additional features and enhancements which make the Spypoint Pro X PLUS THE trail camera of choice.

I have spent considerable time and money over the last few seasons trying to find some good outdoor clothing. All too often I bought something that was too warm, too light or just

not up to the job and completely unsuitable!

Indeed, I spent quite a substantial amount on a well-known brand last season only for it to let me down very badly after two months of use.

Recently, while searching for some new clothing before the season started, I was recommended a company known as Stealth Gear. Originally their products were designed for photographers but more and more hunters, shooters and outdoor enthusiasts are finding out just how good this British brand is.

I obtained a pair of the Stealth Gear trousers in early September and put them through their paces over the following few weeks.

From wet mornings after ducks to lamping, ferreting and even pushing through some very heavy cover, they never let me down.

The extra features like knee pads and various pockets, designed with the photographer in mind, are extremely beneficial to the hunter.

Indeed I found the knee pads brilliant while setting purse nets.

All in all, a first class piece of kit which I am still using and would whole heartedly and genuinely recommend.

Scotland to axe game licences..

It's been reported that Game Licences will be scrapped in Scotland as from next year. This comes after an announcement in a government report on the Wildlife & Natural Environment Bill which has been widely welcomed.

Originally an enforcement aid against poachers in the 19th century, it has now become largely ineffective.

Revenues from Game Licensing are minimal and are not channelled into conservation and game management.

The abolishing of the Game License will bring Scotland into line with the rest of the UK which will also help cut down unnecessary bureaucracy for those deer stalkers and shooters.

A License to sell or trade in game in Scotland is also seen as surplus to requirements as it was effectively replaced by the hygiene regulations back in 2006.

The restrictions on the sale of game out of season will also be scrapped as they were brought into force prior to the introduction of refrigeration.

The consumption of game products is rising steeply and the removal of game licenses will only serve to make game more freely available.
